Gait Analysis in Knee Osteoarthritis
Category Precision Rehabilitation
Clinical PI Dr Bryan TAN Yijia
Associate Consultant, Woodlands Health Campus

With a rapidly aging population, osteoarthritis (OA) is expected to become the 4th leading cause of global disability by 2020.

Established guidelines for knee osteoarthritis strongly advocate lifestyle changes such exercises and weight loss as first line treatment reserving surgery as the last resort. Current literature has demonstrated the current limitations of conservative treatment. This has resulted in an exponential rise in knee arthroplasty in the past decade.

Precision rehabilitation through gait analysis is a key strategy in optimizing non-surgical treatment. The aim of the study is to investigate the utility of Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM1D) for movement deficiencies in knee osteoarthritis in terms of diagnostic accuracy, development of an outcome measure and as guidance for intervention prescription.
